2D After Effects animation
Core Idea: space, loneliness, dread, science fiction
Medium: 2D animated illustrations
Outcome: 2-minute hand-drawn animation
Year: 2019
Time spent: 2 weeks
An original animation of a sci-fi theme, inspired by an original work of mine on paper. (seen below)
The 2-minute clip tells a loose story of an astronaut stranded in space, but there’s a deeper underlying theme of existential dread and otherworldiness.

‘Obscure’ - original illustration, pen and ink, A4 paper.

Notable frames, all hand painted in Photoshop, then imported into After Effects
I’m mesmerizingly attracted to science-fiction visual styles, ones with robots and mechanical details. The astronaut lost in space was meant to represent loneliness and helplessness, whilst the cyborg-figure was also broken down and in a shabby condition, representing decay and death. These wayfaring strangers, doomed to drift to oblivion, has serendipitously found each other.
